Why buy high efficiency appliances? Most households are aware of the costs of energy, both financial and environmental, of so we can combat both of these costs by using efficient appliances.
Choosing energy efficient appliances is a line forward effort with government regulations that require labeling to show the energy use and costs. In the United States this is the EnergyGuide label and Canada, EnerGuide label, both of these tags will give you essentially the same information. The labels show the kilowatt hours per year of use and how certain rates against other similar aircraft equipment on the market. This information allows you to compare devices you can make an informed decision about your purchase.
The other designation to look for when buying appliances is the international brand Energy Star symbol is used to show that the document meets the highest standards energy efficiency available in the market. Energy Star appliances will be the most efficient, but may cost more than their less efficient counterparts, make sure taking into account the lower operating costs.
In many places, there are incentives for upgrading their equipment to the ENERGY STAR models. Some areas have government loans for low-interest tax exemptions, or repurchase programs for old equipment. Some regions have mostly tax credits for the upgrade of housing stock if certain incentives are intended primarily for new construction. Check your government websites and the electric company for more details about what is available to you.
Remember that sometimes the most effective newer models may be more expensive than other devices. Take time to calculate the difference in cost of operations and any discrepancy, they can get tax credits or deductions in a more efficient version.
