According to dictionary.com, the technical definition of Democrat is "a member of the Democratic Party." This is not exactly helpful, especially if are new to politics and trying to find out where on the political spectrum. At the risk of partisan and political bloggers to get on my back, the difference fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Democrats want bigger government while Republicans want less government small. Obviously, there are many ways to integrate these two philosophies into a system of political beliefs, I doubt this article will encourage Democrats to Republicans. We just want to explore what makes the Democrats … so, the Democrats!
It can be hard to believe, with all the fans dispute happens in Congress, but Democrats have been, ever, members of a party called the Democratic – Republican Party, which was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The Democratic Party officially separate Republican Party when Andrew Jackson was elected.
That is fine, but what Democrats really believe? We can not speak for the people within the Democratic Party, but the game is defined as the belief that:
Raising the minimum wage
Investing in renewable energy and the promotion of oil
Reducing taxes for the middle class
Higher taxes for the wealthy (defined as those currently earning more than $ 250 000 per year)
Public funding of social welfare, Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security
National / universal health care
Reducing drug costs
Environmental Protection
Reduced costs of higher education
North American Free Trade Agreement
Central America Free Trade
Alternative minimum tax adjustment
Equal opportunities regardless of sex, age, race, nationality or religion
Make gay marriage legal
the pro-abortion legislation
Stem cell research
End the War in Iraq
Investing unilateralism
The decolonization of Puerto Rico (if the citizens of Puerto Rico you want)
It is simply a long list on what the Democrats believe in as a party. All these points have sub complicated policy behind their titles (which do not have time to explore in this article.) In both political parties are not members not agree with all aspects of the political platform of a party.
The 2008 election results in Washington balance on the tip side of Democrats in the hall. Americans elected a Democratic president and the House of Representatives and the Senate Majority, where everyone has been sworn in the session. Many Republicans worry about how they alter the balance of laws and policies in the United States. It is important to remember that you can not paint all Democrats (or Republicans) in one basket. It is also important to remember that being "liberal" and being "a Democrat" does not mean always the same. In recent decades, the "liberal" brush is used against the Democrats and it is important to remember that liberals can be found in the Constitution of the Republic, the Green and Libertarian parties as well!
